Not Listed? Graduate students in a clinical mental health program or professionals from other domains might still qualify for the Certified Trauma Professional certification.

Education Criteria (12 clock hours minimum):

  • Neurobiology of Trauma
  • The Pathogenic Memory and PIA
  • Adaptive Information Processing Theory.
  • Fundamentals in Polyvagal Theory
  • Neurobiology in Attachment Theory and Moderna Attachment Theory (Schore)
  • Classification of trauma & stressor-related disorders (DSM-5®).
  • Developmental and attachment-related trauma.
  • Trauma assessment including PTSD and Complex Trauma.
  • Utilization of assessment tools & scales.
  • Identification of trauma symptoms; understanding comorbidities.
  • Treatment phases: safety, stabilization, processing, and re-integration.(Harman)
  • Overview of evidence-based treatment modalities.
  • Review of current trauma treatment literature and research.
  • Elaborate and distinguish between positive outcomes from different trauma treatments like CBT, DBT, and Evidence Based Trauma Therapeutic Models with Neurobiology Pathogenic Memory Processing outcome.

 – Documented certificates of completion from accredited training organizations. 

Courses completed within 3 years of the initial application are accepted.

Approved Courses includes: PESI, Nicamb, TRF, EMDRIA, EMDR Institute, IFS Institute, BrainSpotting, Somatic Institute, Trauma Stabilization, 

Local Trauma Certification Institutes Accredited by IPT.

  1. Documentation:
    • Submit a copy of your license and training completion certificates as per the Educational Standards.
  2. Application Fee:
    • Payment of the certification application fee is required.

Note: Certification validates your educational accomplishment and adherence to professional standards, not clinical competency. Ensure to practice within your profession’s legal and ethical boundaries and local license required by law.

  • For a 1-year renewal: Submit licensure copy and six (6) clock hours of trauma-focused continuing education, along with the renewal application fee.
  • For a 2-year renewal: Submit twelve (12) CE hours of training.
  • For a 3-year renewal: Submit eighteen (18) CE hours of training.

Renewal training hours must be acquired post the latest certification or renewal. If your certification lapses for over 3 years, re-application for certification is required.

This revised structure aims to provide clear, concise, and organized information, making it easier for applicants to understand the requirements and process.
